Alice's Obituary

Alice F. Murdock, 89, of St. Joseph, passed away, Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Caretel Inns of Lakeland in St. Joseph.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Glenn Rosenbaum officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 1 at the funeral home. Alice was born May 9, 1933 in Rockport, Indiana to George & Dorothy (Massie) Holmes. After moving to Niles, Michigan, she attended Niles Public Schools. Alice was employed at V-M Corp. in Benton Harbor for several years before taking a job at Whirlpool in Benton Harbor as a photographer in the drafting engineering department. On November 5, 1966, she married Lenn Murdock in Coloma, Michigan. She later gained employment with Bendix Corporation in St. Joseph from where she retired in 1978 as a records supervisor.

Alice and Lenn were active with the Blossom Time Festival where she served on the Central Queens Committee for eighteen years. She enjoyed traveling across the United States and the world, both on vacation and for sales trips which Lenn earned from work. One of her highlights was a trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand with her daughter and granddaughter, where they were able to ride elephants. Alice looked forward to visiting with family at the annual Holmes Family Reunion at North Lake Park in Grande Mere which she and Lenn organized.

Alice’s pride and joy was her 1972 Red Corvette, which she purchased new. She loved cruising in the corvette and the time spent with fellow club members at Corvette Coventry. Alice also enjoyed the time spent on Lake Michigan with Lenn in their power boat.

Alice is survived by her husband Lenn; two children-Michael D. (Lorena) Lloyd & Vickie L. Lloyd; two grandchildren-Stephanie DaSilva & Michael C. Lloyd; two great-grandchildren-Jazmine Wendzel & Cameron Lloyd; six siblings-Gary (Carol) Holmes, Robert Holmes, Bruce (Carolyn) Holmes, Bonnie Hazelbaker, Colleen Kimbrell, & Brenda Eakin; a sister-in-law Sharon Holmes; Lenn’s brothers-Richard (Peggy) Murdock & Stephen A (Dolinda) Murdock; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Barbara Holmes, and two brothers-George M. Holmes & John (Ernestine) Holmes.
