Thomas "Leon"'s Obituary

Thomas “Leon” Tillery of Fennville, Michigan, passed away August 3, 2021 at Holland Community Hospital in Holland Michigan surrounded by his loving family. Known as “Leon” to family and friends. Leon was born September 27,1931 in Pottsville Arkansas to Monroe Bryan & Marilla (Sharp) Tillery.

 

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Wanda Rose, 4 brothers Virgil, Thelder Eugene, Floyd (Tiny) Monroe, and Melvin Bryan Tillery, 2 Great Grandkids, Harmony Carr and Alexis Cowley, 7 Sisters in Law, and 7 Brothers in law.  Leon is also preceded in death by his beautiful wife Glendora (Conley). Leon and Glen were married on June 18, 1960. Their love endured nearly 59 years. They were true soul mates. Leon and Glen had 5 children together. Leon will be missed by his children, Sandra Wilson of Fennville Michigan, Sharron (Jim) McKay of Holland Michigan, Russell Tillery of Bangor Michigan, Bobby (Dawn) Tillery of Lakeland Florida, and Terri (Allen) Ray of Stevensville Michigan. 17 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, a brother Billy Joe (Peggy) Tillery of Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Leon honorably served his country during the Korean and Vietnam wars in the United States Navy. He retired after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He later retired from Manufacturing Maintenance. Leon enjoying fishing, reading, telling jokes, watching westerns, and singing. Leon was a devoted husband and loving father. He also loved his Lord and was a member of the Lacota General Baptist Church. Leon was a man that taught his children about values, honesty, and faith. He wasn’t a man to show anger or frustration when things didn’t go right, but instead he showed patience, integrity, and heart. He loved his family fiercely. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known him.

 

A visitation will take place Friday, August 6, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Chapel in South Haven. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Hall officiating. Leon will be laid to rest at Peal Cemetery in Fennville, Michigan.
