Bertha Lee Harris

Mrs. Bertha Lee (Toles) Harris, the daughter of Robert Lee and Leila (Eggerson) Toles was born January 7, 1948 in Taylor, Mississippi. Bertha affectionately known as “Gallie” attended Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee public schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of New Non-Conna M.B. Church in Memphis, Tennessee. Later in life, she joined Second Baptist Church in South Haven, Michigan. Bertha was united in holy matrimony to Cleveland Harris and to that union, five children were born. On Thursday, March 22nd, 2021, Bertha passed away at the age of 73.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son – Dennis D. Harris; sisters – Mary W. (Sammie) Sanders, Laura F. Harris, and Lola V. (Michael) Bottoms; and brothers – James M., George A., Arthur L., and Johnny C. Toles.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memory five children – Cleveland William D., Anthony T., and Daffney D. (George Duke) Harris and Dennis Harris; five grandchildren – Leon D. (Amanda), Destiny D., and Brian D. Harris, Esther E. (Anthony) and Spencer Jay “Paparazzi” (Lilly) Adam; three great grandchildren – Sania T., Carter A., and Jordan; three sisters – Catherine (Jesse) Wheeler of South Haven, Sharon Toles of Kalamazoo, and Barbara Toles of Indianapolis, Indiana; and two brothers – Jerome M. (Willie Ruth) and Larry (Ollie Mae) Toles of Memphis, Tennessee. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends also survive.

Wake will take place Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Dureya Gibson officiating. Bertha will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
