Isiah Lewis, Jr.

Isiah Lewis, Jr., of Portage, Michigan passed away Monday, March 15, 2021 peacefully in his home. Isiah was born March 7, 1963 to Isiah Lewis, II and Lue Ellen (McGowan) McMath in Brownsville, Tennessee. Growing up in South Haven, Michigan, he was raised by Pastor James McMath in union with Lue Ellen and touched the hearts of many while he was with us.

Isiah married Darlyn Shotwell on January 7, 1989 and they shared 32 years of marriage before his passing. Isiah worked as a chef at several different restaurants in the area. He loved to cook and fish. Isiah was one to light up the room and had a wonderful laugh. He loved to spend time with his family.

He is preceded in death by father, Isiah Lewis, II, his step-father, Pastor James McMath, brother, Rodney Lewis, and grandfathers, Herbert Carr and Richard McGowan; aunts and uncles – Johnny “Slick” Lewis, Williams Lewis, Cotter Lewis, Karl Lewis, Mary (Lewis) Mitchell, Leroy McGowan, Willie Mae (Butch) Daniels, Rosie (Don) Seawood, Delores ‘Juicy” Bowers, Gloria Dean Carr, Frank Carr, Mary Ann Carr, James “Jimmy” Carr, Enita Carr, Terry Carr, and nephew- Carlos Calhoun.

Isiah is survived by his wife - Darlyn Lewis of Portage, MI; mother – Lue Ellen McMath of Bangor, MI; daughter – Monica Taylor of Durham, NC; Grandchildren – Cheraine (Chris) Stiteler, Sierra (Juwain) Burton, and Ariyanna (Josh) Gray; one great grandson on the way-Asher; grandmother – Georgia Carr of Kalamazoo, MI; siblings – Johnny (Kim) Lewis of South Haven, MI; Lucy Jean (Sam) Brice and Dorothy Lewis of Bangor, MI; Willie (Tiffany) Everett and Cheryl (Keith) Small of Winona, MS, Dorris (Darren) Forest of Clarksville, TN; and Carl McMath of Covert, MI; aunts and uncles – Betty Lewis, Grace Williams, Frank Bowers, Beatrice Carr, Mosetta Carr, VanDyke Carr, Cheryl Carr, Rose Taylor, Henry McMath, and Cheryl Carr; nieces and nephews – Katisha (Terrence) Burton, Shanice “Niecy” Lewis, Crystal (Jimmy) Russell, Nancy (Thomas) Covington, Brandi (Drew) Suggs, Ebony Calhoun, Ticcara Tillman, Jacorrian Howell, Rodney Lewis Jr., Yendorii Lewis, Malcolm Lewis, John Lewis, Brandon Lewis, Faith Lewis, Giorgio Lewis, Kenneth Calhoun, Jr., Uniquka McMath, Carlton McMath, DeVontay Easterling, Vanessa Fricke, Caprice Pope, Sterling Brice, and Stephan Brice.

Wake will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven, Michigan. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Cobbs officiating.
