Dorothy's Obituary

Dorothy Elaine McDonald of Benton Harbor, MI was born July 26, 1947 to the union of Leonard Jordan and Ida Lucille Burton of South Haven, MI. She made her heavenly transition Monday, March 15, 2021.

Dorothy was educated in the South Haven Public School System and graduated in 1966.  Dorothy received Christ as her personal Savior and was a faithful member of Emmanuel Community Church.

In 1967, Dorothy married Levi McDonald, Sr. and to this union two beloved children were born, Cynthia and Levi, Jr. After their short residency in South Haven, MI, the family relocated to Milwaukee, WI. While in Milwaukee, Dorothy worked as an administrative assistant for 30 years and retired from Milwaukee County. In her quest to be closer to family, Dorothy returned to the tranquil environment of her hometown, South Haven, MI, where she had her dream home constructed. The dream home represented the ultimate level of satisfaction she had strived to accomplish for many years.

Dorothy was a member of the South Haven Black History Leadership Society for over 20 years. Additionally, she was an active member of the Democratic Party and worked diligently volunteering her time at voting polls and voter registration sites. She often made donations to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan, We CARE, and local nursing facilities as well as other charities. Dorothy was also a spokeswoman for the Diabetes Association, where she received various awards. She loved to devote her time and service to those who were less fortunate. Dorothy was an avid walker and often utilized the neighborhood and downtown locations as her favorite areas to stroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Jordan and Ida Townsel; siblings, Blanche Jordan, Leonard Jordan II, Lawrence Jordan, and Richard Jordan.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: children, Cynthia Thomas of Woodbridge, VA; Levi McDonald, Jr. of Milwaukee, WI; siblings, Judy Walker of Los Angeles, CA, Bernice (Ralph) Cunningham of Kalamazoo, MI, Curtis (Sheila) Jordan of Milwaukee, WI, and Gwendolyn (Robert) Maggard of Augusta, GA; grandchildren - Kayla Edwards of Woodbridge, VA and Christian McDonald-Dillion of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
