Michael's Obituary

Michael S. Kinney Sr. 68, of South Haven, Michigan, passed away Saturday, January 30th, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan after a lengthy illness.

Michael was born August 11, 1952 in Hinsdale, Ill. to Myles and Priscilla (Heinig) Kinney.  He was a 1971 graduate of South Haven High School.  After graduation, Michael went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War receiving medals and commendations for his service as a M.P.

Michael spent most of his adult life residing in South Haven and operating his home remodeling business, Kinney Construction.  He was also involved in South Haven Township government as an elected official.   As a member of the South Haven American Legion Post 49, he held various leadership roles and responsibilities including Commander.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Jane Kinney.  He is survived by his son, Michael Jr. of Allendale MI, his grand daughters, Haley Jo and Chloe Kinney, siblings, Stephen (Sandra) Kinney of Kalamazoo, Clare (William) Olney of South Haven, Anne (Donald) Eldred of Mattawan, and John (Tracy) Kinney of Moncks Corners, South Carolina, niece and nephews, Christopher, Matthew, Elisabeth, and Nicholas.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Michael will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan and be honored by the US. Army.

The family would like to thank all of the compassionate VA medical professionals, caregivers and Betty Hadley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 49, 129 Michigan Ave, South Haven, MI 49090.
