Raymond's Obituary
Raymond Valentine Peckstein, 91, of South Haven, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at his home with family. He was born September 26, 1929 to Valentine and Bertha (Winkel) Peckstein in South Haven. Ray married Irene Konrath on September 25, 1948 in South Haven. After Irene’s passing, he married Marguerite Schlaack on Oct. 15, 2005. He was a member of the Operating Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He was proud to be a member of the Union Local BAC 2 of Kalamazoo. Ray enjoyed being around the horses and working on the farm. He belonged to the South Haven Riding Club and ran a Western Store out of his basement for many years. Ray was known for collecting sap around Van Buren and Allegan county for making his syrup. He was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Ray was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.
He is preceded in death by his first wife – Irene Peckstein and second wife – Marguerite Schlaack. Also by his son, Mark Peckstein, and a brother, Harold Peckstein.
Raymond is survived by his only daughter – Robin Knapp, granddaughters – Audra Knapp Reyes and Heather Peckstein Cornish of Princeton, Kentucky, grandsons – Jared Knapp of South Haven, and Travis Kelley of South Bend, great granddaughter – Sydney Gamble of Oak Grove, Kentucky and brothers – Robert Peckstein of South Haven and Karl Peckstein of Ludington.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3:30 PM with Pastor Stephen Daley officiating.
