Troy's Obituary

Troy Milton Butler, Jr., 70, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his home. He was born April 17, 1950 to Troy and LaVerne (Shorts) Butler in Chicago, Illinois and was raised by Troy and Vivian (Williams) Butler. Troy graduated from Morgan Park High School with the Class of 1968. He honorably served his country in the United States Army attaining the rank of an E5 Sergeant. In addition to serving his country, Troy was a member of the Chicago Chapter of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense.  Troy married Roberta Balenton on December 25, 1979 in Chicago, Illinois. They shared 41 years in marriage. Troy worked as a welder and maintenance person for Hi Tech Stainless in Fennville for 15 years before retiring in 2008. One of Troy’s proudest moments was when he was appointed as a deacon at the Spiritual Church of Christ where he served the Lord for many years. Years ago, Troy enjoyed taking walks. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading The Bible and history books. Troy loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death along with his parents by a brother – Michael “Nexus” Butler and family members - Martha Butler, Rotell and Lucille Glenn, Elizabeth Jones, and Raymond Jones.

 

Troy is survived by his wife – Roberta Butler of South Haven; children – Troy M. (Jennifer) Butler III of Grand Rapids, Jamal Butler of South Haven, Emmarr Butler of Grand Rapids, and Nichole (Troy) Mooyoung of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren – Aydin, Kenna, Kaelan, Aedrik, Skylar and Myles; siblings – Debra (Charles) Blunt of Grand Junction, Karen Richardson of Chicago, Illinois, Troy Spencer (Mary) Butler of Decatur, Alabama, and Cleveland (Jessica) Butler of Bloomingdale. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Wake will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will be livestreamed at 3:00 PM with Pastor Aaron Cobbs officiating at the funeral home.
