Albert "Al"'s Obituary

Albert “Al” Shumaker, 77, of South Haven, passed away November 13, 2020 at Bronson South Haven Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He was born May 27, 1943 in Douglas to William and Halo (Ellis) Shumaker of Fennville, Michigan.

Al honorably served his country as a member of the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1969. Al served during the Detroit Riots and it was there that he met his wife, Nancy. They were married on Nov. 4, 1967 and were blessed to have just celebrated 53 years of marriage.

After working as a Carpenter at General Motors for 33 years, Al was able to enjoy retirement as an avid farmer of Texas Longhorn Cattle and as a talented craftsman. He enjoyed woodworking and became a respected licensed contractor. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Bangor and was known for his selflessness and care of others. He taught his children the importance of kindness and always helping others.

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Bennett) Shumaker of South Haven; daughters, Kim (Steve) Hallmark of Grand Junction, Jenny (Stuart) Price of South Haven; and a son, Tony (Michelle) Shumaker of Paw Paw. His spirit lives on in eight grandchildren: Nicolas (Jennifer) Hallmark, Victoria Hallmark, Jessica (Justin) Cyr, Ashley Price, Austin Shumaker, Brittany Shumaker, Alaina Shumaker and Mason Shumaker; and two great-grandchildren, Nikolai Hallmark and Emma DuCharme.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Beverly Brandt; a brother, Robert Shumaker; a son, Willie Shumaker; and a grandson, Andrew Hallmark.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home. Live streamed private family services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Travis Wilson officiating. Due to COVID-19, masks must be worn at all times during the visitation and funeral service. Monroe Street, Bangor, Michigan 49013; or Peace Lutheran Church, 06321 Blue Star Memorial Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
