Eugene Franklin Hardester

Eugene's Obituary

Eugene Franklin Hardester, 78, of Mentone, Indiana passed away Monday, November 2, 2020 peacefully with his family present. He was born March 1, 1942 to Roy and Bessie (Morrison) Hardester in Checotah, Oklahoma. Eugene served his country in the United States Army as an engineer from 1965 to 1967. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Midwest Operating Engineers Union.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Eagle’s Club. Eugene enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his friends, family, and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gordon Hardester, and sister, Cathy Hardester

Eugene is survived by his children – Frank (Josephine) Hardester of Lacota, Michigan and Bobbie Butcher of Petoskey, Michigan; siblings – Gail Robbins of Zionville, Indiana and Helen Williams of Memphis, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #49 at 129 Michigan Avenue, South Haven, MI 49090 in Eugene’s honor. Eugene will be laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in South Haven, Michigan.
