James's Obituary

James D. “Jim” Schnake, 79, of South Haven, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at home surrounded by family. He was born July 4, 1941 to James E. and Rose (Swetay) Schnake in South Haven. He was life-long resident of South Haven and resided in Englewood, Florida in winter, that he enjoyed. James graduated from South Haven High School in 1959 and joined the Naval Service until 1963, serving on the USS Trigger. He married Alada Darty on February 8, 1964. They shared 55 years in marriage together. James worked at National Motors and Holland Hitch before retiring in 2002. James enjoyed collecting hit and miss engines to repair them. He loved traveling to shows and auctions. James was known as the “Fix it man”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his wife on January 28, 2020, his granddaughter – Alada Zantello; grandson – Brandon Zantello; sister – Barbara Dumdie.

James is survived by his children – James S. (Karen) Schnake, Carol (Dave) Lockard of South Haven, Steven Zantello of Holland, and Glenn Zantello of Jackson; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren; brother – Ronald Schnake; many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at a later date. James will be laid to rest at McDowell Cemetery in Casco Township.
