Peggy Lois Smothers

Peggy Lois Smothers, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away September 24, 2020 in South Haven, Michigan.   Peggy was born in Newport, Arkansas to Warden Gale and Anna Lorene (Davis) Robinson on October 29, 1948.  She married James Harold Smothers on February 7, 1969 in Watervliet, Michigan.  They celebrated 51 years of marriage. 

Peggy graduated from South Haven High School in 1966.  She worked as a secretary at Niagara Chemical and Wanks Furniture.  Peggy had the surprise of her life when she gave birth to twins, only expecting one until delivery. Peggy was a foster mother to over 30 children.  Her passion was playing the piano and the accordion. She had a nursing home ministry at Countryside Nursing Home where she led worship for the patients.   Peggy was a member of First Assembly of God Church where she faithfully served her Lord whom she loved so much.  She was an excellent southern cook and everyone always enjoyed her wonderful creations.  She could make something delicious out of anything.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Peggy is survived by her husband James Harold, her twin children James (Anna Bednarek) Smothers of Fennville, Michigan and Nancy (Jason) Barnes of South Haven, Michigan, and her loving grandchildren, Sydney, Alaina and Francine.  Also surviving are her brothers, Howard (Ruby) Robinson of Hartford, Michigan, Stanley (Jean) Robinson of Covert, Michigan and Jerry (Faye) Robinson of Bangor, Michigan

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven, MI.  Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM with Pastors Bruce Robinson and Eric Jarvis officiating at the funeral home.  Peggy will be laid to rest at Fish Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
