Stephen & Sun's Obituary

Stephen and Sun Axsom, of Bangor, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at the Spectrum Health Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Stephen was born May 13, 1953 to Forest and Thelma (Walker) Axsom in Indianapolis, Indiana. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from which he retired after 20 years of service. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who loved to fish, golf, and collect coins. He also enjoyed watching Korean dramas. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Sun was born December 25, 1946 in South Korea. She co-owned Sunshine Beauty Supply in South Haven with her husband Steve for 17 years until they sold their business in 2010. Sun enjoyed fishing and gardening and loved animals. She is preceded in death by two sisters.

Steve and Sun were both devoted members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Haven, serving there since 2004 until present, some 15 years. Steve served as Branch President, a congregational leader and minister, for three and a half years (2011-2014). Sun was a beloved Primary teacher for more than 10 years serving the children whom she dearly loved.

Stephen and Sun are survived by their son – Jon Axsom of Bangor; Stephen's siblings– Tim (Joanne) Axsom of Hartford, Phillip Axsom and Tom Axsom both of South Bend, Indiana, and Alicia Axsom of Eau Claire, Michigan; Sun’s sister.

Funeral services will be broadcast via Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89335694659) at 2:00 PM EDT on Thursday, August 20, 2020 from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located in South Haven, MI. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, attendance at the local church in South Haven is being reserved to immediate family and those personally invited to attend. All others are being encouraged to view these services via Zoom on the internet. Stephen and Sun will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
