Barbara A. Cox

Barbara A. (Shumaker) Cox, 88, of South Haven, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020 peacefully at her home with her children at her side following a short battle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1932 to Irvin and Theresa Shumaker in Fennville, Michigan. She married Jesse Cox on March 27, 1950 in South Bend, Indiana. They shared 58 years in marriage before his passing in June of 2008. In earlier years, Barbara enjoyed wood working, making small projects along with her husband to sell. The two enjoyed having booths at flea markets where they made many friends.

She is preceded in death along with her parents and husband – Jesse Cox by a son – Norman Cox, son-in-law – Carl VanWy, a brother and a sister.

Barbara is survived by her children – Carla (Bob) Young of Paw Paw, Michigan, Jeff (Susan) Cox of New River, Arizona, Lisa VanWy of Paw Paw, Pat (Laura) Cox of South Haven; grandchildren – Nick (Heather) Cox, Christy (Robert) Cox, Sonya (Guy) Stinson, Jessica (Paul) Bodenberg, Roberta Young, Ryan Cox, Garrett (Taylor) Cox, Christopher (Lauren) VanWy, Neil (Tiffany) VanWy, and Patrick Cox; 22 great grandchildren; sister – Sue (Don) Zyble; brother – Lloyd (Mary) Shumaker. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Graveside services will follow the visitation at 11:30 AM at the Stephenson Cemetery in Casco Township with Deacon John Lohrstorfer officiating.
