Naida's Obituary

Naida Jane VandenTak, 83, of South Haven, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020 peacefully in her home. She was born July 4, 1936 to Hendrik Jan and Marguerite (DeJonge) Steenblik in Zeeland, Michigan. Naida married Larry “Bud” VandenTak on September 1, 1956 and they shared 44 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. Naida worked as an obstetrics nurse at South Haven Community Hospital for 25 years before her retirement. In her early years, she played the piano and cello, enjoyed riding horses, and was an active Dutch dancer. Later in life, she became an avid gardener growing both flowers and vegetables. Naida also enjoyed camping in the upper peninsula. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church in South Haven.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Larry “Bud” VandenTak.

Naida is survived by her children – Michael VandenTak of South Haven, Kathie (Russ) O’Brian of Portage, and Lawrence Ed (Kathy) VandenTak of Holland; grandchildren – Angela (Shawn McElroy) VandenTak, JamesVandenTak, Jessica VandenTak, Erin Mannon, and Allison (James) Beilby; and siblings – John (Beverly) Steenblik of Hudsonville and Gracia Aldrich of Orange County, California.

Memorial services will take place Friday, October 2, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Reformed Church in South Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Reformed Church at 1365 Monroe Boulevard, South Haven, MI 49090. Naida will be laid to rest at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland, Michigan.
