Steven's Obituary

Steven Mark Otto, 59, died in Holland, Michigan on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. He was born February 22, 1961 in South Haven, Michigan.

Steve was a 1979 graduate of South Haven High School.  The majority of Steve’s working years were spent as a mechanic/auto body person.  For the past few years, he worked in newspaper services.

He had a great passion for his cars beginning with his 1990 Caprice 396 project in the early 1990’s and later, a 1974 Nova.  Steve raced them both at 131 drag way.  Steve loved vacations to the western U.P. It was a highlight for him to stay in a primitive cabin with gas fired lamps and a campfire.  Steve spent time working on a homemade off-road three-wheeler and being the head mechanic on a successful modified class Kalamazoo Speedway car, winning 13 weeks of a 15-week season.

Steve is survived by his brother, David (Bobbie) Otto of South Haven; nephew Ryan (Emily) Otto, nieces Erin (Matt) Pielin  and Karen Beltran and four great nephews and nieces, all of Zeeland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Jean Otto, grandparents Lon and Zera Wierenga, and brother, Ken Veenstra.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 20, at 11:00 A.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home with Fr. Jim Morris officiating.  Visitation for friends will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. prior to the service.  A private family graveside service will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores.
