Loretta Erma Spencer

Mrs. Loretta Erma Spencer passed away from a brief illness on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan She was born October 14, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Advetius and Albert German, she was the second child to this union.

Loretta Erma Spencer was educated in the Chicago Public School system, graduated from Wendell Phillips High School, Peters Business College and Unique School of Beauty Culture all in Chicago, Illinois. When she came to Michigan, Loretta furthered her schooling at Kalamazoo Beauty Academy in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was an honor student throughout her schooling.

Loretta was united in Holy matrimony to Mr. Joseph Spencer, he preceded her in death.

Loretta was baptized again in 2012 in South Haven, Michigan. She attended Quinn Chapel AME Church in Chicago, Illinois. She also attended Almena United Methodist Church when she moved to Michigan in the 1960s. Recently she attended First Assembly of God in South Haven, Michigan and Covenant Christian in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Loretta was a librarian in both Paw Paw and Mattawan libraries. She was a beautician and she played the piano. She also was a bookworm and liked to sing. Loretta loved her son and took care of him until he passed. Loretta was passionate about all her endeavors in education, as you can see, she loved to further her education.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents—Advetius and Albert German; her one and only son—Arthur Spencer; four brothers—Leon, Alfred, and Melvin Henry, Albert; four sisters—Advetius, Dovie Lee, Valjean, and her youngest sister Joyce Conley who preceded her in death on April 15, 2020.

Loretta leaves to cherish her memory her loving sister Mrs. Cletus Offord—her last remaining sibling and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special friend and foster care provider
Mrs. Birdie Farley.

A wake will be held Friday, June 5, 2020 from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Minister Lloyd Robinson officiating. Loretta will be laid to rest at Almena Cemetery in Paw Paw, Michigan.
