Steven Alan Blair

Steven Alan Blair 56 peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on February 29, 2020.  He was born September 17, 1963 in Watervliet, Michigan to Oscar Jr. & Alice Blair.

At the early age of 12 Steven was baptized at Covert Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard McGee.  While attending he loved to sing in the choir at church.

Steven graduated from Covert High School in 1981.  Steven married the love of his life Gwendolynne Wilburn on May 5, 1984 during their union a son was born Cordell Alan Blair.

On May 9, 1984 Steven joined the United States Air Force where he served 3 ½ years.  He worked 25 years on and off for Blair’s Towing Service.  From 2011 until his illness Steven drove for the Van Buren Public Transit where he never met a stranger.

Steven loved to cook especially on the grill while spending time with family and friends.  He also enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, and dominoes.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Jr. & Alice Blair, paternal grandparents Oscar Sr. & Elizabeth Blair, maternal grandparents Charles & Lolia McKee, and nephew Jawann Young.

He is survived by his children Cordell Blair of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Andrea Edwards of Reno, Nevada; Xavier Blair of South Haven, MI; Veronica Blair of Jackson, Tennessee; Ashley Blair of South Haven, MI; Jonathon Brown of Grand Junction, MI; Stacey Echols of Kalamazoo, MI; Kaiden Thomas of South Haven, MI, and Brian Spaulding of Bloomingdale, MI.

Grandchildren:  Kahlilh Bond, Carson Blair, Bentley Brown, Karter Alsalman and Sayler Blair.

Siblings:  Chalene Watson of Kalamazoo, MI; Sharon (Andre) Williams of Covert, MI; and Michael Blair of Kalamazoo, MI.

Aunts and Uncles:  George (Vernetta) McKee of Covert, MI; Benita Lattimore of Chicago, Illinois; Barbara McKee of Fairfield, California; Dorothy “Dot” Roland of Novi, MI; Ida (William) Sledge of South Haven, MI; Eula McKee of Benton Harbor, MI; Robert Calloway of Grand Rapids, MI; Vernal Blair of Brighton, MI; Carrol Blair of Portage, MI, and Cynthia Blair of Detroit, MI.

A host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, a special younger cousin who always had his heart Willie J. Sledge of Romulus, Michigan, and his loving classmates of Covert High School- Class of 1981.

Special Friends: Kimberly Winters, Lanatia Polk, Raymond Moore, Bill Stuckum, and Donald Simpson.

 A wake will take place Friday, March 6, 2020 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Lily of the Valley Church in Covert, Michigan. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the church with Bishop Darryl Williams officiating. Steven will be laid to rest at Covert Cemetery in Covert, Michigan.
