J. Refugio's Obituary

J. Refugio “Cuco” Ruano Sanchez, 69, of Bangor, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 peacefully in his home. He was born July 3, 1950 in Jalpa, Zacatecas, Mexico to Jose Ruano and Maria Sanchez. Refugio married Juana Lopez on February 21, 1971 in Mexico and they shared 49 years of marriage before his passing. Refugio was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed watching soccer on TV, going to the racetrack to watch thoroughbred horse racing, going to the casino, taking road trips with family, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

We will miss his constant jokes, the life stories he told around the campfires, his hilarious commentating during our volleyball games, his competitiveness in the game of Texas Hold’em, his impromptu dancing when one of his favorite songs came on, and the hard work we all put in over the years helping him take off his cowboy boots.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Cesar, Oscar, and Jose Ruano, and brothers, Salvador and Jose Maria Ruano.

Refugio is survived by his wife, Juana Ruano, daughters – Soraida and Nancy Montoya, sons – Edgar and Eric Ruano, and sisters – Adela Nunez, Beatriz Uribe, Teresa Orona, and Alma and Oralia Ruano.

It gives us comfort knowing he lived a great life and is now resting peacefully as he joins his three sons and grandchild in heaven.

A visitation will take place Friday, February 28, 2020 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven, Michigan. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Father German Perez Diaz officiating.
