Alada's Obituary

Alada Schnake, 74, of South Haven, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was born May 8, 1945 to John P. and Annie N. (Harbin) Darty in Carbon Hill, Alabama. She lived in the Bangor and South Haven area. Alada married James D. Schnake on February 8, 1964. They shared 55 years of marriage. Alada was employed at the South Haven Rubber Company for many years. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was always in the kitchen cooking or baking something to share with others.

Alada’s smile was contagious. If you knew her, you loved Alada. She enjoyed traveling to flea markets and engine shows. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter – Alada Zantello; grandson – Brandon Zantello; Brother – Virgil Darty; sisters – Virgie Lawson and Betty Obidzinski.

Alada is survived by her husband – James Schnake of South Haven; children – Carole (Dave) Lockard of South Haven, Steven Zantello of Holland, Glen Zantello of Jackson, James (Karen) Schnake of South Haven; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sister – Nellie (Allen) Brinks; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Alada will be laid to rest at McDowell Cemetery in Casco Township. Contributions may be made in Alada’s memory to the Caring Circle Hospice at Home, 05055 Blue Star Highway, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
