Andy's Obituary
Glenn Andrew “Andy” Olson, 60, of South Haven, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at his home. A bouncing baby boy, he was born July 15, 1959 to adoring parents Theodore Edwin and Beatrice Joan (Empson) Olson in South Haven. Always a clever fellow, Andy excelled in academics and exercised his physical prowess as an amazing high school athlete before graduating from South Haven High School in 1977. In pursuit of higher education, he graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College Police Academy in 1984. He faithfully served the people of his community for 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.
He married the love of his life, Julia, on August 28, 1993 in a lovely ceremony in Kalamazoo. Andy loved to golf, argue with the TV on Football Sunday, read fine literature (especially Louis L’amour westerns) and regal his children with stories of “the good ol days. He had a remarkably dry sense of humor, invented sarcasm, had a quick wit and was the king of snappy come backs. Andy loved his family intensely and cared deeply for his friends. He appreciated each and every blessing he had been given and was an active and dedicated member of Hope Reformed Church in South Haven.
Andy is preceded in death by his father, mother and brother, Erik Olson.
Andy is survived by his wife – Julia Olson of Paw Paw, children – Lindy (Lukas) Gooding of Hamilton, Jerrod (Alix) Olson of Hudsonville, Michale (Brittany) Ockerman of South Haven, Brenda (Chad Ritchie) Ockerman of Lawton, Martin Schau of South Haven, AJ Olson of Paw Paw, Livia Olson of Paw Paw, and sibling Jessie (Tabitha Flatau) Olson of South Haven. An impressive number of grandchildren (13) also survive.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Filbrandt Family Funeral Home in South Haven. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Hope Reformed Church in South Haven with Pastors Steve Smallegan and Craig Massey officiating. Andy will be laid to rest in Monk’s Cemetery, Geneva Township, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in Andy’s memory to West Michigan Cancer Center/Ascension Hospice 200 N.
