John E. Hodge

John E. Hodge, 63, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 1, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Arrangements have been entrusted by Newell Chapel and Cremation services in Decatur. Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering in his honor will be held at a later date. Those wishing to leave an online condolence for the family may do so at www.newellchapel.com. John was born December 13, 1957, in Grand Rapids, MI to Lawrence and Ruth (Boone) Hodge. He graduated from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek in 1976. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 13 years. John then went on to college where he earned his associates degree in electrical engineering. On December 28, 1983, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Rust in Florida. John was a hard worker, he worked installing satellites in many hotels, businesses and residents until his retirement. In his spare time, he was an artist and created many beautiful pictures. Most of all he loved his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John is survived by his parents, Ruth and Lawrence Hodge; loving wife, Liz Hodge; children, Janice Gauss, Shane (Melissa) Hodge and David (Samantha) Hodge; step-children, Amber (Herb Jr.) Davis and Troy Rasey; and siblings, James (Kathy) Hodge and Christopher (Katherine) Hodge. He is preceded in death by his brother, David Alden Hodge.
