Marvel's Obituary

Marvel A. Christy, 98, of St. Joseph, passed away, Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Pine Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Arden United Methodist Church, 6891 M-139, Berrien Springs, with Rev. Lanny Duffel officiating. Friends may visit with the Family beginning at 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the Church. Private Burial will take place at Spring Run Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorial donations in Marvel’s name may be made to Arden United Methodist Church. Those wishing to sign Marvel’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Marvel was born September 21, 1923, in Grand Rapids to Stewart T. & Eva V. (Ellis) Cooper. The family moved to Benton Harbor, and she graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1941. On September 19, 1942, she married Charles P. Christy in Benton Harbor. Marvel devoted her life to caring for her husband and seven children, while also helping Charles in the family business- Christy Products Co. from 1946 until 1995. She was a long-time active member of Arden United Methodist Church, volunteered for the Red Cross and for Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She served her community as a Poll Worker in Royalton Township for over 30 years. Dedicated to the best education for all children, she remained active in the Berrien Springs Schools PTA for over thirty years. Marvel loved to bake and was known for the Communion Bread she baked for Church. She was happiest when surrounded by her many friends and large family, especially her grand & great-grandchildren. Marvel is survived by her children-Cheryl Stacey of Berrien Springs, Cynthia (Richard) Weill of Kalamazoo, Douglas (Annette) Christy of St. Joseph, Ronald (Amy) Christy of Covert, Jane (Patrick) Glass of Benton Harbor; her daughter-in-law Val Christy of Kenosha, WI; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. Marvel was preceded in death by her husband Charles on July 15, 2001, her son David Christy on September 11, 1978, her grandson David Charles Glass on January 28, 1986, her son-in-law Dennis Stacey on November 3, 2011, her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter-Michael “Scott” Christy, Jean Tam & Suzanne Marie Glass on June 28, 2019, and her four siblings-Jack, William & Joseph Cooper & Clarissa Alti.
