Maureen F. (O’Malley) O’Brien, 81, of Lake Michigan Beach, was called home to be with Our Lord on Monday, August 30, 2021. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 10AM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, With Deacon Nickel officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, September 3, 2021, from 6PM until 8PM, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Lake Michigan Catholic School Fund, PO Box 32, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Maureen was born on February 21, 1940, to James & Beatrice O’Malley in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Visitation Catholic High School in Chicago. On September 23, 1960, Maureen married John O’Brien in Chicago. Her main passion in life was her family and raising her children. Once she had grandchildren she was commonly referred to as “Granny Moe” by family and friends. She volunteered at the Hagar Township Fire Department and worked many years at the Landmark Hotel Galleria in Benton Harbor. She also loved LMBPOA beach, which she sat on the board for and managed the beach security guards. Every summer her family would come for vacation and visit the beach she helped care for. Maureen was known for her contagious laugh and helping hand. She never met a stranger. Maureen was survived by her children, Kelly (Donald) Hambright of Holland, Theresa (Michael Wolfe) Geoghan of Edwardsburg, Johnette (James) Kurina of St. Joseph, John (Lisa) O’Brien of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Colleen (Brian) Demkovich of Granger, IN, and Kim O’Brien of Lake Michigan Beach; grandchildren, Erin, Brittany, Kathleen, Daniel, Ashley (Josh), Sarah, David, Michael, Megan (Jake), Kellen, Ryan (Rachel), and Mollie; twenty great-grandchildren; and brother Jack Maurer. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, James & Beatrice O’Malley; husband John O’Brien; and brothers, Thomas & James Maurer.
