Newton Frank, 101, of St. Joseph, passed away, Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at his home. Private Family Services have been held at B’nai Sholom Cemetery in Benton Harbor, with Rabbi David Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Newt’s name may be made to Temple B’nai Shalom, 2050 Broadway, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Those wishing to sign Newt’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Newt was born August 8, 1920 in Benton Harbor to Abe & Fannie (Sax) Frank. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School, Class of 1938 and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army during WWII, stationed in Europe. On January 12, 1947, he married the former Marion Walper in Benton Harbor. Newt was a local business owner and also worked at various other jobs in the area, retiring at the age of seventy. Newt was known for his friendly personality, his great smile and warm welcome to all he met. Socializing with his many friends was his hobby. They were as important to him as his family. Newt was a member of Temple B’nai Shalom, F & AM Lakeshore Lodge # 298 from where he received his seventy-year pin and earned his 33rd Degree, and was a member of the Scottish Rite. Newt is survived by his children-Cheryl (Jerry) Pieh of Buchanan, MI, Sandra (David) Badt of Portage, MI, Abe (Carol) Frank of Washington, DC; six grandchildren-Laurie (Matthew) Diggins, Leslie (Marc) Zimmerman, Sean Hoffman, Mike (Sarah Chaffee) Bell, Jessica (Gabriel) Suleymanov, Elizabeth ((Karl) Garman; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Marion on April 6, 2011, his daughter Janet Hoffman on September 25, 1989, and his sister Rhea Goldbaum.
