Marie Imogene “Jean” Schneider, 95, of Buchanan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at home with her family by her side. Marie Imogene (Jean) Schneider was born in Shelburn, Indiana June 1, 1926 to David and Gertrude Skinner. Being the seventh of nine children (seven sisters, two bothers) Jean learned to share, love, and depend on her six sisters and 2 brothers following the loss of their mother when Jean was three years old. Their father moved the family during the depression to Buchanan, MI where the sisters (all being great cooks) opened the Buchanan Grill that was known for homemade breakfast, lunch and dinner meals 24 hours a day to the men and women who worked at Clark Equipment Co. during WWII. It was there that a handsome man in his uniform came in and caught the eye of Jean - the rest is history. Jean and Gordon (Bucky) Schneider were married May 18, 1946, had a business (S & S Supermarkets) and raised three daughters in a loving home. Being a sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend, Jean was surrounded by many whom she loved and who loved her. All loved to visit her on the farm, sit on the front porch and share stories. She was a lifetime member of the Buchanan Christian Church (formerly the Church of Christ) in Buchanan MI. She was also a member at Orchard Hills Country Club where Jean and Gordon enjoyed playing golf. She even held the title of Club Champion for several years. Jean loved traveling enjoying many places from Canada to Africa. Most of all, she loved the Lord and cherished time spent with her family, always happy to host a family Christmas, Thanksgiving or any other type of gathering. Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Gordon Schneider and daughter Nancy Jean Schneider, brothers - Lauren Skinner, Robert Skinner, sisters - Lois Skinner, Mary Banke, Lila Sullivan, EmmaLee Huggett. She is survived by daughters Vickie Schneider McAskin (Thomas) of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Sandra Schneider of Buchanan, MI, two grandsons Marcus (Jennifer) McAskin of Denver CO, Matthew (Julie) McAskin of New York, NY, great grandchildren, Thomas, Peter, Milly and Collin. She is also survived by two sisters Mildred (Lil) Skinner Pridavka of Buchanan, MI, and Muriel (Biggie) Skinner Jerue of Plantation, Florida.
