George Richard Herder

George R. Herder, 79, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 1PM, at North Shore Memory Garden, 5027 M-63, Coloma. Friends may visit with the family 30 minutes prior. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 4071 Naomi Rd., Sodus, MI 49126. George was born on March 23, 1942, to Herbert & Alice (Sager) Herder in Jackson, MI. He graduated from Jackson High School, class of 1960. George worked as a supervisor for Clark Equipment for over 30 years before retiring and then began working part time at North Shore Memory Gardens with his wife Galdys, who he married on May 6, 1990. George volunteered for the Fire Department in Horton, MI and was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. George enjoyed traveling and going on cruises, but most of all he loved to spend his time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his three children Pam (Ed) Wright of Niles, MI, Sherry (Greg) Herder of Bremen, IN, and Steve (Joan) Herder of Kokomo, IN; stepchildren, Theresa & Timothy; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister Rosie (Gene) Johnson of Jackson, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Gladys Herder; and siblings, David Herder and Susie Herder.
