Myra's Obituary

Mrs. Myra Melvin passed away peaceful on Friday afternoon at the Forest Glenn Assisted Living in the presence of a few family members. Mrs. Myra Melvin was born March 2nd, 1930, the 2nd of 5 Children of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Marguerite Pierson in Keeler Michigan. Mrs. Melvin was a 1947 Graduate of Dowagiac Union High School and a 1950 Graduate of the St. Camillus School of Nursing in Kalamazoo. Mrs. Melvin worked as a Register Nurse at Lee Memorial Hospital and taught Nursing out at Southwestern Michigan College where she helped start the program. Myra (Pierson) Melvin married George Melvin on November 11, 1953. They raised three children of their own. Randy Jonlee Melvin, Jeffrey Allan Melvin and Todd Andrew Melvin. They also enjoyed traveling and took their family on 3 week vacations every summer across both the United States and Canada. They also belonged to a Jayco Camping group that camped one weekend of every month from April to October in and around NE Indiana and SW Michigan. Mrs. Myra (Pierson) Melvin is proceeded in death by her Husband George of 58 years (2012). Her parents Henry and Marguerite (Meyers) Pierson Gale. Two brothers Ferris Pierson and James Pierson. She is survived by 2 sister Carrilou (Pierson) Gale of South Haven and Theresa (Pierson) Jacobson of Oshtemo, and her 3 sons, Randy (Kathy Stephenson) Melvin of Dowagiac, Jeff Melvin of Battle Creek, and Todd (Kathy Kidd) Melvin of Clarkston, Michigan. There are 9 grandkids, Brent (Melissa) Melvin of South Bend, Brian (Ashley) Melvin of Fountain , Sara Melvin of Dowagiac, Tanner Melvin of Dowagiac, Kelsey Melvin of Garden City, Cody Melvin of Davenport Fla, Trevor Melvin of Waterford Michigan. Justin Kidd of Waterford MI, Cheyenne (Nate) Harrod of Waterford Michigan. There are 9 great grandkids. Skylar, Natalee Olivia Melvin of South Bend, Jordyn and Brooklyn of Fountain, Katelin (Glon) of Dowagiac, Kaylee Patterson (Melvin) of Garden City, Colten and Finny of Waterford Michigan There will be a memorial held at the Starks Clark Funeral Home on Saturday August 7, 2021 between 11: 00 and 12:30 followed by a family memorial. Then the family will be gathering out at the Moose Lodge North of Dowagiac from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The family is asking for donations to be given to Southwestern Michigan College Nursing program in lieu of flowers.
