George Mahler

George F. Mahler, 95, of Berrien Spring, MI passed away Monday, July 19, 2021 at Crown Point Assisted Living in Stevensville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 P.M., Friday, July 23, 2021 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel and Cremation Service, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Jeremy Koehler officiating. Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Caring Circle Hospice or the Berrien County 4-H Foundation. Those wishing to share a memory of George online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com George was born June 3, 1926 in Berrien Springs, MI to Leroy & Elsie (Fogel) Mahler. For his early education he attended Tryon School in Royalton Township then attended St. Joseph High School. George later proudly received his GED from Lakeshore High School in 1972. On May 10, 1947 he married Velma Krieger in Baroda, MI. George worked for Lakeshore Public Schools as head custodian for many years. George had a big heart and loved his farming community. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything from building a house from the ground up or any repair that was needed. He also enjoyed gardening, wood working and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. George is survived by his wife Velma Mahler; children Greg (Cindy) Mahler, Steven (Jackie Kelly) Mahler, Jeanne (Geoff) Surch, Timothy (Deb Ballinger) Mahler, Jo Anne (Steve Hillegas) Kerill and Daniel (Patricia) Mahler; grandchildren Jayme (Ryan) Bendoski, Eric Mahler, Gretchen (Jason) Ensink, Andrew (Beth) Mahler, Scott (Sarah) Mahler, Jennifer Mahler, Sarah (Cory) Green, Mark (Megan) Mahler, Elliott Mahler, John Mahler, Sam Kerill, Ben Kerill and Max Kerill; great grandchildren Grace, Ryder, Stella, Ethan, Dylan, Hudson, Ava, Adalynn, George, Jacob, Grace; step-grandchildren Patty, Mike, Rhonda, Larry, Laurie and Greg; step-great grandchildren Cheyenne and Kaitlyn; and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his son James Mahler; daughter-in-law Donna Mahler and sister Dorlesca Spalding.
