Paul Edward Barry

Paul Edward Barry, 76, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at his home in St. Joseph. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11AM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., Burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10AM until time of the service at the funeral home. Due to health precautions, please wear a mask during both the visitation and service. Paul was born May 23, 1945, in Chicago, IL to Edward and Jeanne (McCarthy) Barry. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA. He furthered his education with an MBA from DePaul University. He married Cheryl Mitchner on January 1, 1996, in St. Joseph. He spent 29 years at Whirlpool Corp. in Marketing Services and Information Technology. One of his passions was sailing in Lake Michigan, the North Channel, the Caribbean and the South Pacific. When not sailing, Paul volunteered with the AARP organization doing taxes in Benton Harbor and would run on the bluffs of St. Joseph. Family was his greatest passion, with connections in Chicago, Kalamazoo, and Florida. Spending special time with his grandchildren was especially rewarding. Paul is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cheryl Barry; his son, Phil (Kelly) Barry; his grandchildren, Julian and Ella; and his siblings, Allen (Kate) Barry, John (Debbie) Barry, Martha (Marion Kryczka) Barry and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Paul’s family would like to extend a special thanks to his wonderful caretakers from Caring Circle, Allison and Tracey.
