She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1947. She met her future husband, Ed and they were married on October 24, 1953 in Muskegon. They moved to the Upper Peninsula, where Ed attended Michigan Tech University and Lois worked at the ROTC to help pay for his college. They moved to St. Joe in 1963. Lois worked at Jefferson School and then for Lincoln School, as an elementary school librarian, where she became long-time friends with Kathy Peirce. She loved gardening, hosting parties, Lake Michigan and traveling. She loved making cookies! She always had knitting needles in her hands making mittens and headbands for children. Her greatest joy was her grandson, Parker. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Anne and Eric Brown, grandson Parker Edward Brown, nieces, Nanette Corn, Lori Bailey, and her very special niece, Inga Marie Carey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Gladys Fohlbrook, her husband Ed Lewis, brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Pat Fohlbrook, and sister, Margaret Damm. The family would like to thank her friend Bonnie for steadfast visiting and phone calls and her caregiver/friend “Anita,” who always provided soup, many laughs, and was a bright spot in her day, and also her many friends who sent notes, made phone calls, and helped around the house. Memorial contributions can be made to Harbor Habitat for Humanity of Benton Harbor, 175 W. Main St., Benton Harbor, MI 49022 or an organization of your choice.
