Richard's Obituary

Richard M. “Rick” Groesser, 63, of Watervliet, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Bluff City Boulevard Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd, Elgin, IL 60120, with Pastor Dave Daubert from Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105. Richard was born April 17, 1958 in Elgin, IL to Jim and Nancy (Miller) Groesser. After attending Larkin Sr. high school, Richard joined the military, proudly serving in the Army stationed in Germany, at the end of the Vietnam War. He worked as a handyman in construction for the later part of his career. Richard was an avid coin collector, NRA member, NASCAR, and sports fan, especially showing his support for the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He was also a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. Richard is survived by his parents, Jim Groesser & Nancy Emmer; daughter, Ashley (Nick) Helvey; granddaughter, Madison Helvey; sisters, Vicki (David) Russell, Cindy (Gary) Jones, and Trish (Glen) Davis; nieces and nephews, Jacob and Elizabeth Russell, Dustin Jones, Stacy Costanza, Asheal, Clarissa, and Chelsey Davis, and Glenna Darnaby; and also survived by many Aunts & Uncles.
