Wilma's Obituary

On June 9, 2021, Wilma finished her earthly journey with joy as she ran into the arms of her Savior. Born October 6, 1932 in Huntington WV to Hysel and Edna Wetherholt, Wilma left the hills of WV at 21 and lived the rest of her life in Ohio and Michigan. Wilma began her education at Marshall College in Huntington, and began teaching at the tender age of 19 in a one room school in Frog’s Creek, West Virginia. She also taught in Ohio and Michigan. She finished her degree at age 59 at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN. A life-long learner, she took personal interest courses at Lake Michigan College, Wheaton College and Moody Bible Institute. She married Harold Redman in 1957 and they celebrated 49 years of marriage before his death in 2006. Wilma’s faith was of utmost importance to her and she spent many years teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies and 5-day clubs, and serving in other capacities in her church. She made the most of any opportunity to share Jesus’ love to salesclerks, neighbors and strangers on an airplane. For the last several years she would read the Bible through, beginning in Genesis. This year was no exception, and she was in 2 Kings when she died. She had quite the sense of adventure, and enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Ethiopia twice to visit her daughter and to China with a church group. At age 81 she went whitewater rafting for the first time ever in West Virginia. She had so much fun she repeated it again at age 84! Her more sedate past times included flower gardening, birdwatching, painting and reading biographies. Besides her husband and parents, Wilma was preceded in death by a son, Ronald (2001), brother Linville Wetherholt and sister Geneva Chapman. She is survived by her sons Thomas (Hedy) and Michael (Rischell) of Coloma, and her daughter, Nancy of Berrien Springs. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren Timothy (Amanda) Redman and Michael (Karri) Redman of Georgia, Amber (Karlo) DeLos Angeles, Alyssa (Matthew) Bailey, Kelsey (Theodore) Walters, Sydney (Zia) Hansen and Reese Sample all of Michigan; and 7 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her “bonus kids”, John and Linda Yeske of St. Joseph, Denise Taylor of Watervliet, and many dear friends who brought joy and laughter into her life. Burial has taken place at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Berrien Center Bible church 8830 M-140, Berrien Springs at 7:00PM. Friends may visit with the family 1 hour prior to the service. Please join Wilma’s family for a light meal following the memorial service. Memorials may be directed to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) at Berrien Center Bible Church 8830 M-140, Berrien Center, MI 49102.
