Doris's Obituary

Doris Wilfred, 86, of Riverside, passed away May 24, 2021, peacefully at her home with her family by her side. She was born to Roy and Vela (Case) Martin, June 22, 1934, in Marcella, Arkansas. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1951, at the age of 16. In high school she met Donald Wilfred, and they married in June of 1951. While Don served in the U.S. Army spending one year in Korea, Doris worked at Whirlpool Corporation as an administrative assistant. Upon Don’s return from Korea, they built their house on Maple Lane, where they spent the rest of their lives together. Doris retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1992 to take care of her grandchildren. Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Kevin Polaskey; her grand-daughter, Kathryn Polaskey; her grandson, Andrew Polaskey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; father, Roy; mother, Vela; and two brothers, Claud Martin, and Bill Martin. Doris was a cherished mother and grandmother. She loved to crochet and read, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed an activity or sporting event. She provided many meals, rides, and family vacations. Her loving care could always be counted on. She was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Lake Shore Cemetery in Hagar Township with Father John Fleckenstein officiating. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph.
