Rodney's Obituary

Rodney Austin Sartin, II, 33 of St. Joseph, passed away, Monday May 17, 2021 at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 4:00 P.M Wednesday, May 26 at First Church of God-Benton Heights Campus, 990 N. Euclid Ave., Benton Harbor, with Rev. Jaime Cervantes & Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Private burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorial donations in Rodney’s name may be made to Carol’s Hope, 4032 South M-139, St. Joseph, MI 49085. Those wishing to sign Rodney’s Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Rodney was born March 5, 1988 in Berrien Center to Rodney A. & Angela (Stine) Sartin. He graduated from Lakeshore High School Class of 2006 and attended Lake Michigan College. Rodney was employed as a tool & die maker at K-O Products in Benton Harbor. He attended First Church of God-Benton Heights & Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. He devoted his life to his family by encouraging his children in their sports and attending all of their sporting events. Family vacations were one of his favorite things along with roller skating at Lakeshore Roller World. In his free time, Rodney enjoyed working on cars, tinkering & fixing things, camping, fishing, and he loved listening to music. He was always ready to help those in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rodney is survived by his long-time companion and mother of his children-Ashley Jensen; his children-Rodney Austin Sartin, III, Allianah Jolei Sartin, Karsen Lee Sartin; his “adopted son” Jordan Brule of Watervliet; his mother Angela Nelson of Berrien Springs; grandparents-Bonnie & Donald Godfrey of Stevensville, Russ & Sally Stine of Bridgman; siblings-Becky Ross of Decatur, Janice (Abel) Fonseca of Granger, IN, Jackie Nelson of Dowagiac, Jessica (Alex) Milius of St. Joseph, Nathan (Ari) Nelson of Muskegon; numerous aunts & uncles, nieces & nephews; special friends- Bruce Wykle of Berrien Springs, Keith “Red” LaFond of Benton Harbor & Kim Brown of Stevensville; life-long friends from school-Kerry Babcock of Ferndale, MD & Alex Stuard of Detroit; and his canine companions-Balto & Sweetie. He was preceded in death by his father Rodney in 1995 and his step-father Robert “Bob” Nelson in 2014. His grandmother Mary Weatherly in 1999 and his great-grandmother Betty "Mazee" Tabbert in 2012.
