Dorothy Ruth Hanes

Dorothy R. Hanes, 100, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Royalton Manor in St. Joseph. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks and Menchinger Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10am, Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Crystal Springs Church of God, 1465 Pipestone Rd., Benton Harbor with Pastor Bill Bridgman officiating. Burial to follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name made be made to Crystal Springs Church of God. Dorothy was born January 9, 1921, to Rudolph and Pauline (Rock) Rosenthal in Benton Harbor. She graduated from Bridgman High School. In 1939 she married Lewis M. Kiessling, 9 years after his passing she then married Harold Hanes. Dorothy worked at J.C. Penney’s in Benton Harbor and retired from Health Co. in St. Joseph. She had a strong faith in God and was a devoted member at Crystal Springs Church of God in Benton Harbor. Dorothy loved her church and church family. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and loved to read. Most of all she loved her family and will be greatly missed. Dorothy is survived by her step-son, Jerry (the late Mary Carol) Hanes of St. Joseph, 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; Daughter-in-law, Alice Kiessling; and special nephew, Doug Hardy. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis Kiessling in 1955; second husband, Harold Hanes in 1992; son, Donald Kiessling in 1998; daughter, Joanie Priebe in 2010; sisters, Alma Hardy and Helen Moody; brother, Bob Rosenthal; nephews, Raymond Menser and Steven Hardy and niece Deda.
