Timothy's Obituary

Timothy Lee “Tim” Copeland, 47, of Benton Harbor, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital. Tim was born on February, 27, 1974, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Vernon & Joyce (Runge) Copeland. Although he left this earth too soon, Tim embraced life, cherished family and friends, and left a lasting mark. He enjoyed the beauty of the “every day,” loving to play golf, work on cars and cheer for Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish. Tim is survived by his mother, Joyce Copeland of Berrien Springs; brother, Mark (Lori) Copeland of Stevensville; loving partner and girlfriend, Elizabeth Lamoreaux of Grand Rapids; niece, Darcy Copeland of Seattle, Washington; and his lovable, yet spoiled, four-legged companion, Patty. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon and brother, Brian Copeland. Tim attended Lakeshore High School and was a proud member of the Benton Harbor Moose Lodge and St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Elks Lodge #541, where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler. He worked for Benton Charter Water Treatment Plant as a Plant Operator for over 15 years, during which he earned his F-3 Filtration and S-1 Distribution license. Tim was also an active member at Pipestone Creek Golf Course, where he enjoyed countless games of golf with family and friends. Tim loved animals and often searched for ways to make their lives a bit better. When the Humane Society was still located locally on Crystal Avenue, Tim would forego lunch so he could stop by and play with the dogs and cats. Tim’s family will receive guests on Wednesday, April 21, from 4 PM until 7 PM and at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 22 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road. A Celebration of Life Service will follow on Thursday, April 22 at 12 PM at the funeral home chapel. Pastor Dawn Oldenburg-Asperger will officiate. (Masks and social distancing will be required.) Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ or the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan, https://www.humanesocietyswm.org/. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com.
