Doris's Obituary

Doris Marie McKinney, 71, of Benton Harbor, transitioned to her Heavenly Home, Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Spectrum Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Home Going Service will be held 12:00 P.M. Friday, April 23, 2021 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Bishop M. V. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Coloma. Friends can pay their respects beginning at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Doris was born September 3, 1949 in Drew, Mississippi to Edward & Audrey (Giboney) McGhee. After moving to Michigan, Doris graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1967. Doris devoted her life to helping others. She loved people and everyone loved her. She was employed for a number of years at The Link Crisis Intervention Center and later at Riverwood Center, both in St. Joseph. Most recently she helped many people in the community as their Spiritual Advisor. She prayed for people across the United States when she learned of their needs. In her younger years, Doris studied Tap & Ballet dancing. In her free-time, she enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Doris is survived by her children-Rohnette (Bruce) Green, Theodore McKinney, Donna McKinney, all of Benton Harbor, Onchantae McKinney of Indianapolis, Terra McKinney of Lansing, Brian (Lakesha) McKinney, Shannon McKinney, Moneshaniea McKinney, all of Benton Harbor, Champagne McKinney of Kalamazoo; bonus children-Kendra Cooper of Kalamazoo, Patrick Drake of Indianapolis; fifty-four grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and her sister Jean Clinton of Chicago, and a special friend Josephine Meridy. Doris was considered a grandmother by many, many children whom she has met over the years. She was preceded in death by her brother Rickey Williams in 2015, and a great-granddaughter Savionna McKinney on June 14, 2020.
