Edith Violet Bates

Edith Violet (Robinette) Bates, 100, formerly of New Buffalo, now of Roswell, GA passed away on Monday April 5 2021. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sommerfeld Chapel, 15 N. Barton St., New Buffalo, Michigan. Edith was born May 8, 1920 in Chicago, IL the only child of the late Ray and Violet (Hutzler) Robinette. She was a 1938 graduate of South Haven (Michigan) High School. On June 6, 1939 in Ludington, Michigan she married Albert J Bates, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1996. Edith was a long time member of the Lutheran Church of the Dunes in Michigan City. Edith is survived by her children, Dennis (Sharon) of Jefferson City, MO, Cheryl of Michigan City, IN, George (Cheryl) of Sawyer, MI, and Robert of Roswell, GA. Edith has eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday April 10, 2:00 p.m. at Sommerfeld Chapel in New Buffalo, with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in Greenwood Cemetery in Michigan City. Visitation with the family will precede the service from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
