Freeman's Obituary

Freeman Slabaugh, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at 12PM, at Hickory Bluff Cemetery, 4290 Cleveland Ave., Stevensville, with Pastor Rosenbaum officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 404 Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph. Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel. Freeman was born on March 26, 1929, to Joseph & Anna (Yoder) Slabaugh in North Canton, OH. On August 20, 1949, Freeman married the love of his life Audrey Christman at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Massillon, OH. Freeman worked as a truck driver for over 30 years at Dallas and Mavis and then 25 years for Vail Rubber before his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and traveling in the RV, but most of all he loved to spend his time with his family. Freeman was survived by his wife of 72 years, Audrey Slabaugh; sons Robert (Jeanie) Slabaugh, (daughter-in-law) Terri Slabaugh-Jackson and Randy (Marcia) Slabaugh; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and four siblings; Ada Bailey, Elizabeth Tombow, Harold (Helen) Slabaugh and Dorothy (James) Brown. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Joseph Slabaugh, son Rick Slabaugh; and ten siblings.
