Robert E. Mead

Robert E. Mead, 75, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at Bronson Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw. Arrangements are entrusted to Newell Chapel in Decatur. A Celebration of Life Service will be held graveside, on Monday, March 8, at 2:00PM at Hamilton Township Cemetery in Decatur. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 7, 2021, from 3:00PM until 5:00PM at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur. Robert was born November 26, 1945, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Victor L. and Alberta F. (Stanley) Mead. He graduated from Decatur High School, class of 1963. Robert was known as a hard worker, he worked for Fuller and Eaton’s in Kalamazoo, then went on to work for Coca Cola in Paw Paw for 22 years before retirement. After retiring, Robert worked for Decatur Public Schools, working as a crossing guard and assisting in the cafeteria. Robert was an avid Detroit Tigers and Notre Dame fan. In his spare time, he loved visiting the casino with his friends where he enjoyed socializing. Most of all, he loved his family and will greatly missed. Robert is survived by his children, Annette Cruse and Rick (Lu Salmon) Mead; grandchildren, Steffanie Cruse, Trevor Cruse, Cole Smith and Shauna Combs; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Hadlee; siblings, Sharon Masura, Gary (Vickie) Mead and Brian (Val) Mead; and his longtime companion, Eva Hoekstra. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Alberta Mead and infant son Clinton James Mead.
