Lucinda's Obituary

Lucinda Kuykendall, 87, transitioned on December 10, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Lucinda was born October 6, 1933 to the union of Daniel and Catherine Caston in Pine Bluff, AR. Lucinda grew up in Gary, IN and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951. She moved to Benton Harbor in the early 60’s and married David Kuykendall. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and personal savior at an early age. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Catholic Church for many years and later moved to the sister church, St. Bernard Catholic Church in the mid 2000’s. She remained a member there until her heavenly transition. Lucinda loved to sew and was an impeccable seamstress. She also worked a period of time at the local dry cleaners, One Hour Martinizer in Benton Harbor. Lucinda loved to read and take long drives in the countryside with her husband, David. She was always willing to help when she could. She was generous, kind-hearted, and would always greet people with a hug and a kiss; she never met a stranger. For those who knew her, she was a praying, God-fearing woman. She enjoyed going to church, cooking and reading her bible. She loved her children and spent most of her life surrounded by her family. She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy; her daughter, Annette (Allen) Leigh of Atlanta GA; son, Raymond Joseph (Karen) Kuykendall of Memphis, TN; goddaughter, Candy Gaddy of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Dawn Kuykendall of Atlanta, GA., Quianna King of Jonesboro, AR., Joseph Raymond II, Melis’a Kuykendall and Kristopher Green, all of Memphis, TN; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and family. She was preceded in death by both her parents; husband, David; sister, Earnestine Larson and great-granddaughter, Saniyah Kuykendall. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Benton Harbor, with Father James Adams officiating. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow the service at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church.
