Arthur Lockwitz

Arthur Lockwitz, 98, of St. Joseph, MI, beloved husband of the late Doris M. (Wallace) Lockwitz, passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Arthur was born November 16, 1922 in Stevensville, MI to John & Louise (Doroh) Lockwitz. He graduated from Stevensville High School in 1942, where he was on the State Championship basketball team. Arthur then went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during WWII. Following the war, he graduated from Benton Harbor Busines College and went on to marry the love of his life, Doris M. Wallace on April 17, 1948. Arthur then worked for Whirlpool Corporation as a Material Control Manager for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Arthur was a kind, compassionate, and loving soul who led a life of service to all who knew him. To know him, was truly to love him, and you knew he loved you back. Arthur was a man of many talents, the one he found most rewarding was his deep love for gardening and taking pride in making his yard beautiful, which garnered admiration from all who saw it. He was an adventurous, fun loving man his entire life. Most recently, he and his son Dan participated in a Talons Out Michigan Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to the Indy 500, visiting museums, attending car shows, and seeing his friend, Gary Todd perform, who always honored with him a medley of patriotic songs followed by a standing ovation. Arthur is survived by his three sons; Dan (Sara) Lockwitz, Keith (Regina) Lockwitz and Todd Lockwitz; grandchildren Frank Arthur LaGambina-Lockwitz, Carmela LaGambina-Lockwitz, Adam (Joanna) Lockwitz, Janelle Edmundson and Cooper Lockwitz; great grandson Phillip Edmundson; brother Myron (Arlene) Lockwitz and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents John and Louise, siblings Edgar (Vera), Margaret (Walter) Heyn, and John (Beverly), and daughter-in-law Tina Lockwitz. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2673 West John Beers Road, Stevensville, MI with Pastor Jeremy Koehler officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
