John Raymond Genovese

John Raymond Genovese, 81 of St. Joseph passed away Thursday, December 17th, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19. John was born October 18th, 1939 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Elsie and Joseph Genovese. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1958. Following graduation, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served from 1958-1961 as a parachute riggor for his fellow servicemen. After the Marines, John attended barber school and graduated in 1962. He worked at a handful of barber shops in the area before opening Cuts Plus in 1991 where he’s worked ever since. Cutting hair was John’s passion and he felt incredibly lucky to have worked for 56 years with no plans for retirement. John loved his family, the Marine Corps, old movies, magic tricks and playing cards. He will be forever remembered for his loyalty, work ethic and sense of humor. John is survived by his significant other of 30 years, Norma Adkerson; his sons, David Genovese and Brett Genovese; his daughter, Courtney Radde (Matt); Norma’s children, JT Adkerson (Becky) and Tony Adkerson (Jamie); and a brother, Joe Genovese. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, Ava and Boden Genovese; Emma, Claire, Jillian and Harrison Radde; and Chad, Megan, Brixton and Dedrick Adkerson, who will miss him dearly. A private service will be held for family with plans for a public memorial at a later date.
