Martha Pohl Shindeldecker

Martha Pohl Shindeldecker, 98, died peacefully on December 9, 2020. She was born on April 23, 1922 in North Dakota to Roy and Emily Donart. She was adopted by August and Lydia Pohl when she was three years old. She lived in Benton Harbor, Michigan most of her long life. Martha married Rex Shindeldecker on April 4, 1942, who preceded her in death on December 6, 1980. She was survived by her family who she dearly loved. Her son Kip (Connie) Shindeldecker, son-in-law David Brazda, grandson Bryan (Marcie) Shindeldecker, granddaughter Ginger (Jeanne) Geary McCarthy. Also, great grandchildren Mackenna Coffey and Megan Geary. Ty, Jordan, and Jacob Shindeldecker. Josh, Eric, and Brandon Peek. Great great grandchildren Osiris Peek, Henry and Adler Coffey. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pam Brazda, Grandson David Brazda, and Granddaughter Kris Hensley. Martha worked as a secretary for Sorter School for 25 years from 1957 to 1982. After retirement, she was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and Mercy Center. She was the membership chairman for the Morton House and a volunteer at the Krasl Art Center. Martha loved playing cards and scrabble with friends, square dancing, shopping, traveling, and visiting family. She held holiday gatherings for her family every year and made everyone feel special. Martha spent the last years of her life at the Willows, visiting and laughing with her family and her favorite grand-dog Levi. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday June 26, 2021 at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Pastor Jeffrey Hubers officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Young Life.
