Curtis Irvan Plummer

Curtis Irvan Plummer joined God in eternity surrounded by his family, on Sunday December 6, 2020 after a long illness. His family expresses gratitude to his caregivers and the Caring Circle Hospice team who lovingly provided exceptional care and enabled Curt to live his final days in the comfort of his home. Curt was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 16, 1941, the second son of James and Jeanette Plummer. Curt received his undergraduate degree from Missouri Valley College, a Master’s Degree in Theology at Eden Seminary and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University. He served as a pastor of Zion UCC in St. Joseph, Michigan, First Congregational Church UCC in Angola, Indiana, and First Congregational Church UCC in St. Joseph, Michigan. Curt was a Social Worker and Wrestling Coach in the St. Joseph Public Schools and for many years shared in owning The Little House with Sue. Curt and Sue (Prewitt) were married at Eden Seminary in 1963 and recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. Curt is survived by his wife Sue, daughters Amy Preston (Dan Sheesley) and Sarah (Craig) Miller, grandchildren Stephen, Carly, and Ross Preston, and Dane and Gwen Miller, sisters-in-law: Ros (Mike) VanHecke, Linda (Frank) Sullivan, and Nancy (Nick) Mirkay, and nieces and nephews. His parents and his brother Don preceded Curt in death. Through Curt’s dual careers in ministry and social work he was able to touch the lives of many. His compassion, patience, and gentle guidance were like that of no other. Curt wholeheartedly invested his time in people. He was an avid volunteer for many organizations. He nurtured the under-privileged, was a life-long blood donor, and was sensitive to the needs of all animals and people. Curt was a painfully loyal Cubs and Spartan fan, loved Lake Michigan sunsets and taking naps anywhere warm and sunny. Beyond his service in the community, Curt participated in medical research related to his illness, which is now known as CADASIL. Per his request and commitment, his body is being donated to the University of Michigan for the ongoing research of the disease.
