Betty Lou Arent

Betty Lou Arent, of Wauwatosa, WI passed away on November 1, 2020. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Starks & Menchinger Chapel, St. Joseph, MI. Betty was born on a fox farm in Benton Township, MI on October 22, 1924 to Adam and Grace Scherer. She lived in Benton Harbor all her life except for two years in California and the last eleven years in Wisconsin to be near her son. Betty graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1942. She married John F. “Bud” Arent on June 11, 1942 in San Diego, CA. She worked for Consolidated Aircraft Corp. as a QA inspector as part of the WWII war efforts. Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker and care giver to her daughter, Sharon, and her husband. She also worked at Mercy Hospital as a nurse assistant, then as a medical assistant to Dr. Charles Ozeran in Benton Harbor, MI. Later she worked in employment agencies. Betty is survived by her son, Dan L. Arent, and his husband, Patrick O’Hearn of Milwaukee, WI; two granddaughters, Heather Arent of New Brighton, MN and Holly Arent of Kenosha, WI; two great grandchildren, Fritz and Lily Arent-Zachary of New Brighton, MN; and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Arent in 1992; her daughter, Sharon Arent in 2008; her parents, Adam and Grace Scherer; her sister, Juanita Kotyuk; and her brothers, Warren “Bud” Scherer and Clifford Scherer. Funeral services and interment in Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph, MI will be on November 7, 2020 for immediate family. Memorial contributions may be given to the Berrien County Cancer Services or Multiple Sclerosis Society.
