Robert L. Mortimore, Sr.

Robert L. “Bob” Mortimore, Sr., 88, of Dowagiac, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020, at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held graveside on Friday, July 31, 2020, at 2:00 PM, at Riverside Cemetery with Pastor Boyd Saylor officiating. Bob was born February 26, 1932, in Decatur to Charles and Lillian (Denyes) Mortimore. After high school, Bob joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1948 to 1952. On February 14, 1953, he married the love of his life, Donna VanVoorst in Decatur. Bob worked as a maintenance man for several years until his retirement working for National Motor Company in South Haven and Lee Memorial in Dowagiac. He coached Rocket Football for some time in Dowagiac. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars and loved to travel and cook. Most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren who always called him “Grandpa Mort”. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his children, Robert (Deborah) Mortimore, Jr., Patricia (Jim) Hunter, Angie (Dustin) Marciniak, and Michael (Waynette) Mortimore; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Mortimore; sons, Michael Mortimore and Steven Mortimore, grandson Mikey Mortimore and brother, David Mortimore.
