Margaret's Obituary
Margaret A. Kinney, 94, of Lawton, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at her home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Newell Chapel & Cremation Services. A Celebration of Life Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 11:00 am at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lawton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawton Lions Club. Margaret was born on February 24, 1926, in Decatur, to Wilbur Oary & Lillian M. (Congdon) Snyder. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1944. In June of 1947, Margaret married Vernon Atwater. On Thanksgiving Day in 1947, Vernon was tragically killed in a car accident. Margaret wed Willis Lee “Stub” Kinney on February 16, 1949, in Buchanan. The two were happily married for 61 years before he passed away in August of 2010. For over 30 years, Margaret and Stub would travel down to Englewood, FL and enjoy being reunited with their “snowbird” friends for the winter months. She also enjoyed playing BINGO and working on puzzles with her family and friends. She enjoyed collecting porcelain eggs and found many in Shipshewana. Margaret was an incredible lady with a heart of gold, she will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She was a cherished wife, devoted mother, and proud grandmother.
Margaret is survived by her children, Douglas Kinney of Lawton, Kevin Kinney of Decatur, Kathleen Triezenberg of Portage, Lori Beth O’Connor of Lawton, Cindy Kinney of Paw Paw, and Stephen “Harry” (Cheryl) Nielsen of Lawton; grandchildren, Tara Kinney, Jordan (Sarah) Triezenberg, Paige (Graeme Spence) Triezenberg, Holly (Steve) Burns, Andrew (Jennifer) Kinney, Michael Tyler, Danielle (Ben) Silvers, Jaclyn (Greg) Mendek, Audra (Ken Burelson,III) Green, and Raven (Austin Davis) Knapp; many great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Margaret Jennings and cousin, Walter Pompey (Lorna Gates). Many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands, Willis “Stub” Kinney & Vernon Atwater; parents, W. Oary & Lillian; son, Kenneth Kinney; daughter-in-law, Debra J. Kinney; and siblings, Glenn (Evelyn “Tommy”) Snyder and Richard Snyder.
