Nan's Obituary

Nan Elizabeth Woolley, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Spectrum Lakeland Hospital. A long time Berrien County resident, she most recently lived at The Whitcomb in St. Joseph. Born November 19, 1942 in Spangler, PA to John Edwin and Mary (Wagner) Thomas, Nan was a graduate of Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit, PA and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. In June of 1963 Nan married Dennis Woolley, they had three sons and remained married for 52 years before Dennis passed away in 2015. Nan and her young family moved to St. Joseph in 1971. She and Dennis raised their family here. The mother of three active sons, she also worked as a dental hygienist for many years. After retiring as a dental hygienist, she volunteered as a Montessori school teacher. She involved herself in several local civic organizations including the Krasl Art Center and The Symphony League of Southwest Michigan. She was a member of St. Joseph and St. John & Bernard Catholic Parishes during her many years in the area. Nan is survived by her sons, Andrew (Rachelle) Woolley, and Benjamin (Sharon) Woolley; four adult grandchildren; and her siblings, Patricia (Edward) Gibble, and John (M’Liss) Thomas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Woolley; her son, Dennis (Chip) Woolley, Jr.; and her parents. A memorial gathering will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
